Welcome to the Enter.Stage.Write Challenge and Screenwriting Competition 2024!
We are thrilled to announce that the competition is officially open on July 24th, 2023. Transition Stage Company is taking Enter.Stage.Write to new heights this year by transforming it into a challenge and competition. Building on the success of our 2021 event, where we adapted the theatre gala into a factual entertainment TV pilot for online viewing and hosted a screening at the prestigious Birmingham Millennium Point Cinema, we have decided to open the doors to our global writing community.
To support our writers, we are introducing masterclasses with esteemed coaches and writers from the world of stage, screen, and academia. These sessions will help writers refine their craft and write more concisely. Be sure to click the link provided to explore the available masterclass sessions. Don't forget to sign up for our mailing list for updates and exclusive early bird prices.
While anyone can participate in the challenge, access the masterclasses, and receive valuable feedback, only UK citizens and residents are eligible for the official competition. This is an incredible opportunity for writers to level up their skills and showcase their talent.

How to Enter...
Take a scriptwriting masterclass session with Anna Southgate and various other master coaches
As a Script and Development Consultant, Anna has partnered with the BFI, international TV and film producers, and has supported a diverse range of writing talent – from Nicholl Fellowship award-winning screenwriters to best-selling authors. She was also a consultant on a stand-up show for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which went on to enjoy a National Tour and two runs at London’s Soho Theatre.
Anna is also an award-winning writer-director of shorts, features, stage-plays, web and TV series, and has worked with BAFTA and Oscar-winning talent as well as the National Youth Theatre. Anna is currently developing a slate of XR projects with a keen interest in immersive storytelling through her production company www.movrshaker.com.

Enter.Stage.Write Challenge and its Franchises - Your Path to Writing Greatness!
Are you ready to take your writing to the next level? Enter.Stage.Write is an annual nationwide writing competition and show for scriptwriters that offers an incredible opportunity to showcase your talent and refine your skills. Get ready to be part of the Enter.Stage.Write journey!
Here's what you need to know:
- Masterclasses: With your entry, you gain access to 4/5 online masterclasses that will help you become a better, more concise writer. Watch them in real-time or access recorded sessions at your convenience.
- Global Challenge: Enter.Stage.Write Challenge is open to writers worldwide, but only UK citizens and residents are eligible for the Enter.Stage.Write franchise competitions.
- Amplified Competition: Amplified, a part of the Enter.Stage.Write franchise, focuses specifically on Black and Asian minority comedy writers in the UK.
- Call for Submissions: Each summer, we issue a call for submissions of ten-minute-long scripts for television, radio, film, or theatre, with a rule of only 2-3 characters.
- Finalists and Development: Ten outstanding writers will be chosen as finalists for Enter.Stage.Write & Amplified, and their work will undergo further development.
- Grand Final Showcase: The Enter.Stage.Write Grand Final takes place at the Hippodrome in Birmingham, within the StoryTown festival in January 2024. The five shortlisted scripts will be adapted for the stage and performed by professional actors.
- Awards and Recognition: The Enter.Stage.Write Champion Award, chosen by our panel of expert judges, and the Enter.Stage.Write Audience Award are presented during the Grand Final. The Enter.Stage.Write Champion receives a £1000 prize and more prizes and awards to be announced.
- Industry Exposure: All submitted scripts remain on the Transition Stage Company database for a year, allowing high-level industry executives to view and potentially option them for production. Writers retain full rights to their scripts. This is an opt in or opt out clause.
- Protecting Your Intellectual Property: We advise writers to join the Writers Guild Writers' Guild of Great Britain | WGGB (writersguild.org.uk)to benefit from guidance on protecting their intellectual property.
- Raise Your Profile: Enter.Stage.Write not only elevates the profile of writers but also provides exposure to actors and side acts associated with the event.
